We are excited to be bringing back our Art Fair again this year on July 15th at Avalon Newcastle Commons. If you are an artist and would like to participate please be on the lookout on our webpage at newcastlewaarts.org in the coming weeks for further information and an application. 2023 Newcastle Area Youth Art Exhibition – Opening Night, March 1st, 6:00-7:30pm, Newcastle Library -During the month of March, our community can view the 2023 Newcastle Area Youth Art Exhibition at the Newcastle Library during normal library hours. This is our 5th annual youth art exhibition.

There will be an opening night event on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 from 6:00pm-7:30pm at the Newcastle Library where the community can meet the artists and participate in an art project.

While you are viewing the exhibition please vote in our People’s Choice Competition for your favorites of the show. The People’s Choice Competition for this exhibition is supported by: BECU; Newcastle Library; King County Library System; 4Culture; City of Newcastle; Frosty Barrel; Friends of Newcastle Library; Youth Theatre Northwest; Blazing Onion, and MOD Pizza – Newcastle.

Social Dance Class, March 4th, 3:30pm-4:45pm, Coal Creek Family YMCA

Put on your dancing shoes and join Newcastle Arts Council for a Social Dance Class on Saturday, March 4th from 3:30pm to 4:45pm at Coal Creek Family YMCA, 13750 Newcastle Golf Club Rd, Newcastle WA 98059. Participants will be introduced to popular dances including the Salsa, Modern Fox Trot and California Two-Step learning dance technique, footsteps musicality, leading and following partners, and lots of short cuts to fast learning.

This class is designed for beginners and those wanting to brush-up on their dance steps. No experience is necessary. Open to ages 16 and up. Membership at the YMCA is not required. Bring a partner or come alone and grab a partner at the class.

Registration is required by sending an e-mail to newcastlewaarts@gmail.com with the names of all expected participants.

Upon arrival at the YMCA, check in at the front desk.

This class is being taught by Katerina Fedor-White. Katerina is a professional instructor with 38 years of teaching at Bellevue College and a graduate of Prague Conservatory of Dance.

Basic Ballet for Adult Bodies - Saturday, March 11th, 3:00pm-4:00pm, Newcastle Library. Dance is a great way to center the body and work your balance, strength, flexibility, and posture. It doesn't take a "dancer's body" to learn these moves. Anyone can learn these basics and use them in everyday life. Join us for this slow-paced, relaxed, beginning dance class.

Registration is not required for this event but spots for participation are limited so show up early to reserve your spot.

Create Your Own Journal - Wednesday, March 22th, 6:00pm-7:30pm, Newcastle Library. Artist Amaranta Sandys will teach you how to construct and assemble the binding and journal cover and decorate using maps and textures with assorted papers.

Origami Spring Flowers Workshop - Tuesday, April 11th, 6:00pm-7:00pm, Newcastle Library. Learn how to make a colorful bouquet of origami spring flowers, with Emily Mallory of Emily's Papercrafts. All supplies provided.

Registration is not required for this event and all ages are welcome.

Newcastle Arts Council Day at MOD Pizza – Newcastle, Sunday, May 21st

On May 21st, Newcastle Arts Council will be holding a fundraiser at MOD Pizza in Newcastle so mark your calendars. If you present the flier provided with this newsletter when you place an order at MOD Pizza in Newcastle on May 21st, 20% of your purchase will go to support Newcastle Arts Council. Thanks in advance for helping out our organization and supporting a local Newcastle business.

Monthly art programs

As we look toward 2023 Newcastle Arts Council plans to continue our partnership with Newcastle Library and KCLS to provide a monthly art program via Zoom and in person. For this process we could use your assistance. Do you have a great idea for a program? If so, we want to hear about it. Do you have a special artistic talent you would like to share with the community? If so, we would love to showcase your talents during an on-line course or lesson taught by you for the community. For suggestions or comments please let us know by e-mail.

Newcastle Arts Council Monthly Meeting, February 6th, 7:00pm-9:00pm - Our next board meeting is on Monday, February 6, 2023. If you are interested in joining please send a note to newcastlewaarts@gmail.com and we will send you information about joining the meeting. The board normally meets on the first Monday of each month. We are continuing to look for others to be actively involved in the organization.

Newcastle Arts Council Annual and Monthly Meeting, March 6th, 7:00pm-9:00pm - In March Newcastle Arts Council will be holding our 2023 Annual Meeting so plan to celebrate with us the successes of 2022 and learn about what we have planned for 2023. Our annual meeting will be from 7:00pm-8:00pm with our monthly business meeting to follow from 8:00pm-9:00pm.
